On Saturday April 3, 2010 members of the Bushido Jiu-Jitsu Academy attended Rob Orlando’s Strongman Certification at CrossFit Relentless in West Hartford. Rob Orlando is the owner of Hybrid Athletics (aka CrossFit Conan) in Stamford, CT.

The seminar was an all day event and began at 8am and ran till 5pm. It was one of the best seminars I have ever been to. Besides being one of the strongest guys I have met, Rob Orlando was also one of the best instructors I have seen in my 20 years of fitness and martial arts training. It was obvious he has a passion for what he does and for teaching.

The seminar covered several topics including:

  1. Atlas Stone Lifts
  2. Log Lifts
  3. Tire Flips
  4. Axel Lifts
  5. Keg Lifts/Carry
  6. Yoke Carry
  7. Farmer’s Walk
  8. How to add these movements into your CrossFit workouts.

Other then the tire flips (which I have been doing wrong all these years) I had no previous experience in any of the lifts Rob taught. By the end of the day I felt pretty comfortable with each of the lifts. In fact, I bought one of the Atlas Stones and spend Easter Sunday in my backyard practicing Atlas Stone lifts (and tire flips). The Atlas Stone has quickly become one of my favorite items to workout with ever since the seminar. My neighbors have been looking at me like I am crazy but who cares, its fun!

I would highly encourage anyone interested in finding new and different ways to change your workouts to visit Rob’s gym in Stamford. The seminar was great and only left me wanting more of it.

For more information about Rob Orlando or his gym visit his website at www.hybridathletics.net

Later this year we will be hosting Rob for a Strongman Certification at our box in Manchester. Don’t miss it!
